Coming and Going, photographic installation, 7ft. x 5ft.
I began this work when my partner was very ill and I was driving a long drive almost daily to see her. On the way I’d pass this bland industrial building with very tidy trees planted in front of it and I had always marveled at its design. I was simultaneously repulsed by its soulless-ness and attracted to its symmetry and order. I began photographing it each time I went past it first coming and then going from my partners. Often tired from driving, somehow the daily practice of taking these photographs day and night gave me a structure to my travels and I developed an affection for that building and that moment of quiet and order in a challenging time.
