Cast Memories, dryer lint, handmade paper and relief print quilt.
This garment quilt was made using images from all of the homes I have ever lived in. They are images that spring to mind when I remember the particular home. They are large and small, architectural and obscure. The images are first drawn, then carved into a relief block. I used handmade paper composed of dryer lint saved from from my home over the years to make casts of the relief blocks and the quilt backing is from a tablecloth owned by my Grandmother who brought it from Finland when she immigrated to the US in the early 1900s.
The quilt can be displayed, hung on the wall, but mostly I like to wear it. In many photos of me both young and old I am always wrapped in a blanket or beach towel in this pose wearing it like armor of protection and safety like home.
